The health workers from various district from Turkana county had their own training on concept of health development (CHEWs) at Ann Nanjala Center. The health workers from the training set out the factors that had to hindered health and development in the community. They said that lack of individuals voices in decision making is affecting the communities at large creating poor infrastructure and disease, especially chronic illness. In addition the health workers said that there is a relationship between health and development both are interdependent and to develop, people must be healthy and to be healthy, people require access to the necessary resources for instance both depend on education. Speaking During the launching the ministry of health Dr. Epem Esekon urged the health workers to go to their respective working places and mobilize the chiefs to identify some few community health workers and train them on how to enhance good health. Dr. Epem insisted on preventive and curative services when one becomes sick .

More than 200 youth participated in sports and educational youth tournament which was held at Lorugum primary school in Loima district. The activities was organized by Turkwel child fund in collaboration with St. Peter Lorugum parish. Speaking during the events the child fund Kenya program officer in Turkwel area Mr. Vincent Ekai said that the main aim of organizing the youth sport and educational tournament was to create peace among the youth in Loima and also to make them interact with others and equip them with knowledge to empower them face the challenges in the day to day life. Mr. Ekai said that they had two facilitators John Ekai from the diocese of Lodwar and Mr. Stephen Sisa from Lodwar prison who taught the youth on the effects of dangerous drugs and substances. Mr. Vincent however, said that 4 teams participated in the tournament and included Nadapal, Lorugum, Kalemnyang and Turkwel and the winning teams awarded with the trophies. In volleyball girls, Lorugum were the winners after defeated Turkwel in the final 3 set to nil and in boys Lorugum smashed Turkwel in the same style of 3 sets to nil,in the football Turkwel thrashed Lorugum 2 goals to one and became the Loima champions. The most disciplined team was Kalemnyang and was awarded with the 16 pairs of uniform while the Topscorer, Best player and Most Disciplined players were awarded with certificates in football and in volleyball the best spiker, best booster and the trick player also received certificates.

Christians of St. Augustine's Cathedral parish have been informed that the law of God is universal and complete. The vicar general Fr. Joseph Ekalimon said this today when celebrating 2nd mass at the cathedral parish where he is also the administrator. Fr. Ekalimon said that all the other laws that exist in the world are formed according to the different situations and emphasized the universality of the law of God which is suitable for all people. He added that any law that makes one complain is not the best. Fr. Ekalimon also mentioned that during the week, 3 children were baptized in St. Elizabeth small Christian community among the Jumuiya masses. He also appreciated the good work done by all the Christians in the course of the week and wished them the best in this other coming week. Fr. Ekalimon also urged all people to cling to the law of the lord so as to be on the right track in life. He challenged all to take care of orphans and widows in the society in order to practice their Christianity. He urged all to have the spirit of the law which is common good for all. Parents were also informed to offer parental guidance to their children and not allow them to be misguided by the community. Commenting on the teachers strike, the vicar said that teachers have aright for a just pay but he also mentioned that pupils also have aright to education. He called upon teachers and parents to look for a common law that will help all without affecting either side. He also urged the Christians to help all who wish to take leadership positions without looking at how much one has in terms of money so that they can elect leaders of high integrity.

Physically challenged leaders from various groups in the County have been trained at St. Teresa pastoral center. The workshop that has been taking place at the center for the last three days ended today. The workshop brought together 40 leaders from all the six districts of Turkana county to address issues of disabilities. Disability officer for Merlin Mr. Lotaruk Ekwam Narshon said that merlin works in four districts where health units covered by Merlin exists. Mr. Narshon said that merlin intends to equip the physically challenged leaders with knowledge of handling different types of disabilities in the Turkana County. The project is sponsored by Christian Blind Mission (CBM) through Merlin and will benefit all the physically challenged in the community.

The super Super united of Nakwamekwei today afternoon drawed with the rocks of kanamkemer in kakumatt mashujaa Tournament at Nakwamekwei primary school playing grounds. Edoket David of Super united of Nakwamekwei scored the the 1st goal for their team in the 1st half with the support of his defender Lemuya Erupe. The Rocks of kanamkermer had their equalizer goal netted by Philemon Ejikon as a penalty. The referee Mr. Lotulia David said that the players were disciplined during the match. Elsewhere Islamic and Kalokol Rangers played at Prisons ground where Islamic smashed their opponents 1-0. According to FKF secretary Mr. Stephen Bebeto, 4 teams have qualified to the quarter finals these are, super united of Nakwamekwei, Islamic, State side, and Mahon Fc of Napetet. Mr. Bebeto said that the game between Nawoitorong rangers and Mapros will be decided later after it was faced by in discipline cases.
Local News - 27.08.2012- By Kamar Francis - 8 candidate selected during the recruitment of Kenya Army in Turkana Central.
The recruitment of Kenya Army kicked off a round 8.30 am in which 200 candidates participated from various division in Turkana central that is Central, Kerio and Kalokol division. The candidates were allowed to run round twice along the Lodwar Airstrip. The hectic and vigorous exercise so some candidates failed to reach the requirements that were needed. The candidates were divided into three groups as per their divisions. The inspector of Kenya Army and his colleagues started to scrutinize the candidates by checking the certificates, the Identity card, body fitness which included dentition, posture, height, legs and hands. Among the 200 candidates who turned up, only 8 of them met the requirements and were given calling letters and will report on the institution on 4th of September.
