Tension gripped Lokwamusing village, Turkana East sub- county following recent raids that claimed one life and thousands of livestock stolen on 9.01.2014

 Turkana East Member of Parliament, Nicholas Ng’ikor held a meeting with security agencies to ensure the livestock is recovered following suspected Pokot raiders.Speaking during the public baraza in Lokwamosing village, Ng’ikor said the area has inadequate officers who cannot stop the armed bandits.  Ngikor called for deployment of more security officers to stop future raids. However he said that they cannot blame the security officers because they are very few to handle the mass of bandits. Victims fled their homes after bandits suspected to be from Pokot barricading the locals in the   villages killing one man and made away with hundreds of livestock. Ekal Longalan was killed on the January 1, raid and another person injured who has since been rushed to Lodwar  District Hospital for treatment. The MP of Turkana East said that the government must stop addressing raids as cultural practice but as robbery with violence because that is what it is.Locals are now calling on the government to urgently step up efforts to recover hundreds of livestock stolen last week. They said the raids have led to high poverty in the community saying some families have no alternative source of livelihood.

Fr. Concord Akimana has told the Christian that they cannot call themselves followers of Christ if they are not baptized. He said this today while celebrating the last Sunday mass of Christmas  season  at St. Augustine's Cathedral church as they enter other  liturgical season of the catholic church. Fr. Concord reminded the faithful that as they start liturgical year today, they should be aware that the baptism of Christ reminds them that during their baptism they have been made children of God and that they should bring everyone in their midst to be baptized in order to be worthy to receive the other blessings and sacraments of the catholic church. He warned them that they cannot claim to be cleansed by the holy water without being baptized. Referring to those who usually go for blessings in church, he informed them that unless they accept to be baptized and be Christians they cannot be receiving these blessings if they do not belief. He emphasized on the importance of receiving the sacraments which nourish their soul like that of Eucharist.Fr. Concord warned those who receive the Holy Communion without preparing themselves in the sacrament of penance that they receive their own judgment. He challenged the Christians to reflect on how the sacrament of baptism helps them in their day to day lives. He urged them to follow the laws of the  church and bring up their children in God's instructions.

Lokamarinyang village in Turkana north displaced after fire destroyed their houses on 31.12.2013

More than 1500 people in lokamarinyang village in Turkana North are still homeless after a wild fire razed down a village on Christmas day. The village is in Turkana North near the Kenya Ethiopia Sudan border, burnt down, to to ashes leaving  more than 400 homes  and over 2000 families displaced. A woman in a manyatta that was suspected to be the origin of fire at around noon was injured and driven to Kaikor dispensary 200 km away where she is still recuperating. The fire spread first to 250 houses burning them in less than an hour as a result of the strong winds being witnessed in the area. Among the valuables lost included cash, food, identification cards, household goods, young goats, poultry, and school materials for their children. Turkana county deputy governor Mr. Peter Ekai urged locals to be cautious when using fire in the villages temporarily covered by grass and dry sticks also urged donors to come into aid and help the lokamarinyang residents. The villagers received food, medicine and household goods from the county government in partnership with relief agencies such as world food pro-gramme and world vision during the visit.

Turkana county government officially sworn in 6 chief officers and 1 county secretary on 24.12.2013

During the swearing in Peter Lokoli was sworn in as county secretary, Mathew Esinyen Logurale chief officer Trade, Tourism and Industrialization,Agnes Ekiru Mana chief officer Health services and sanitation, Major Rtd Ingolan Daniel chief officer public service, Decentralized Administration and Disaster Management Joseph Epuu Elim chief officer Energy, Environment and Natural Resources, Amina Awoi chief officer of Education, Human resources, Development, Culture and services. And Dr. David Eereng Loitakol chief officer for pastoral Economy and fisheries. Speaking during the excise Turkana county Governor Hon Josephat Nanok said that the team was appointed and county Assembly discussed after which they vetted them and approved to competent.

Hon Nanok also said that he is sure the team will serve the public therefor he urged the public to give them humble time to organize themselves. He added that those people who applied were all able to work but the chances were limited to seven people only however there are still some chances to be announced. The governor urged all the Leaders of Turkana County to come together and embark on development as twenty seven tine is still far to campaign. Turkana county government will not compared to other counties because they are starting the first development and the leaders should not rush but take their good time to assess what should come first in the issue of bringing the county to the level of the other counties. In the swearing in was MP. for Turkana central Hon John lodepe and MP. for Turkana south Hon James Lomenen who appreciated the good work the governor is doing but they also urged the governor to share ideas with other leader of Turkana county.

LOCAL NEWS - BY KEN SIMIYU - PRESS RELEASE FROM LOWASCO ON 28.12.2013

 The Board of Director for LOWASCO has turned down the allegation that have been surrounded by the company by the county government on corruption as a malicious. The chairperson of LOWASCO Prof Thomas Akuja said that the allegations are malicious and intend to defamation and the team was recruited through an open air competitive processes spearheaded by WASREB. Professor however said that this was done within the the provincial of water Act, 2002. Where Application for the posts of directors to represent the civil community of Lodwar and was open to all.

Prof Akuja also said that those who fill that LOWASCO is not doing the right way they should follow the right Chanel. LOWASCO was reacting following several allegations in by the county government in public functions and also in the county Assembly where they discussed about the lowasco employing more than 71 workers instead of 35 workers. The managing Director of Lowasco Mr John Esekon said that LOWASCO had 300 connections for the past one year and now it has more than 500 connections and the workers should be increased so as to save their customers. He also said that there are some department in the government which has a debt of more than 5million and they will now disconnect their lines.
