Local news By ken simiyu 10.6.2015 Turkana Drivers Associations wants commercial vehicles to move to mikeka ground.

The congestion of Lodwar Town has made Turkana Drivers Association to create parking Space at Mikeka ground for the 4 by 4 Vehicles which transports passengers to Kitale. 

Speaking today at Mikeka ground Chairman of Turkana Drivers Association Mr Maxwell Ekamar said that the Vehicles parking opposite Bismilahi and near Njoria Traders should be moved to create space for Pedestrians and BodaBoda operations as the vehicles are normally parked on the road and drainage system and they have issued the letters to the owners of the 4 by 4 vehicles to move at mikeka ground.

On the other hand Lodwar Town Administrator Mr David Edoket said that the movement is not permanent but just for while as the county government is constructing the parking stages at the market place.

 Reacting on the letter one of the Lodwar classic Tours and safaris Mr Michael Njaki said that the ideas of moving to mikeka ground is not suppose to be from Turkana Drivers association but the county government where they pay their tax revenue every day.

 Also on the same matter the vice chairman of matatu association Mr Mohammed Musa Kirengo said that they will not join the Association and to move at Mikeka ground means that they are ready to join Turkana Drivers Association.The idea of the Association was to create space in Lodwar Town and enables smooth movement.

Local news 14.6.15 By Mary Tioko Sacred heart of Jesus members celebrate their feast day by receiving new members.

Sacred heart of Jesus members from st. Augustine’s cathedral church today marked their feast day by receiving new members in their group. The new members were received by his lordship Dominic Kimengich during the holy mass. His lordship told them to be a sincere and prayerful group who emulate the sacred heart of Jesus in their lives.

His lordship encouraged all present to pray for the family which is threatened by a lot of challenges and urged them to be firm in what their faith tells them as they serve people in their respective work places. He said that people have diverted their efforts to personal gains instead of serving the people and called upon leaders to practice their Catholicism in their respective offices and show the love of Christ in what they do. Representatives from the National office who teach people more about Natural family planning gave a talk after mass to Christians. They encouraged them to embrace the Natural planning methods and preserve the family.

His lordship gave Christians Papal blessing from Rome and encouraged them to contribute towards the family dinner which will take place at queen of peace primary and above all prepare for the Eucharistic congress that will take place on 3^rd October 2015 in Subukia.

He blessed Christians with water from the Holy shrine of Namugongo Uganda that was brought by the pilgrims.    

Local news 08.06.15 By Ken simiyu Three countries; Kenya,Uganda ans South Sudan agree to sign MOU as they look forward to end conflict along the borders.

The peace meeting which was held in Lokichoggio attracted the leaders from Turkana county,Uganda and South Sudan.

Representing Kenya, Turkana county Governor Josephat Koli Nanok accompany by his deputy Governor mr.Peter Ekai met with M.P of Uganda Hon:Samson Lokeris and equatorial South Sudan Hon:Jorema Gama  signed in MOU to end up the conflict in that corridor.

Speaking during the meeting Turkana County Governor Joseph Nanok said that it is the high time the two countries to come up with a lasting solution of ending conflict between Turkana community,Toposa of south Sudan Dodoso and Jie of Uganda.

The leaders added that they should conduct a peace meeting on the important of life, the issue of disbarment was also discussed by three leaders. The cause of borders conflict was said to be land, stealing of animals and killing of innocent people. matter of borders the leaders said that national Government will come in to address the issue but three communities should interact freely and doing activities together.

Local news 7.6.15 By Mary Tioko Loima Girls secondary school animate Corpus Christi Mass at cathedral church

Loima Girls secondary school from Loima sub-county today animated Corpus Christi mass at cathedral church Lodwar. The mass started with procession from Mikeka grounds Lodwar through Lodwar streets to the cathedral church where mass started that was celebrated by the vicar general of the Diocese of Lodwar Fr. Joseph Ekalimon. Addressing the faithful during his homily, Fr. Ekalimon said that the Eucharist is the climax of their sacraments in life and that Christians to always ensure that they participate in this holy communion that nourishes their lives.

Fr. Ekalimon said that Eucharist brings them close to God and his Holy alter where the word is read. He said that Eucharist reminds them of the Passover in the Old Testament and Jesus himself giving them his own blood and body in the form of the holy sacrament of Eucharist. He challenged those who do not receive the Eucharist to do make effort of settling all the obstacles that prevent them from receiving for they have denied themselves the bread of life.

Fr. Ekalimon who is also the vocation director of the catholic diocese of Lodwar introduced the two present deacons in church, Deacon charles kapengi from kainuk parish and Gabriel Nakamu from Kalokol parish as they prepare to start their pastoral work in the assigned parishes as they await their ordinations soon. We pray that they continue hearing voice of Christ and become holy priests in future.

Turkana county celebrated the day of African child at Lokichar in Turkana south.

The celebration of African children normally held on 16^th of June every year where all African continents remembers the day of which Africana children were killed at South Africa for demanding their rights.

Speaking during the celebration Deputy county commission of Turkana south Elija Kodo said that this celebration is very Important especially in Trkana south where every year young girls and boys drop out of School for early marriage.

                            

He urged parents to Invest in children and resist early marriages to enable children go to school as they are the leaders of tomorrow.

The in charge of child protection in the Diocese of Lodwar Eunice Majuma said that this year development partners decided to stage the function in Turkana south because of the highst cases of early marriages and urged parents to participate in fighting against the early marriage and the theme of this year is stop child early marriages.

                      

The  guest of honor was a class eight pupil from Angorabat primary school of Turkana south Sylvester Loruka who singled out the challenges that led into early marriages as poverty  ,Illiteracy, ignorance from some of the parents ,pear pressure and many other vices in the African society.

               

The development partners who made the day to successful were Dioceses of Lodwar through the department of child protection, World vision Kainuk,save the children, IRC, Child fund Kenya, SAPCONE, Mission of hope, Tumain CBO of Kanamkemer county government and National government.
