LOCAL NEWS - 09.03.2011 - By Zacheaus Otaba - The task force on devolved government meets Turkana county leaders, at Turkana county council

The task force committee on devolved government team led by John Kirigi, today visited Turkana county to collect their memorandum and proposals on how county government should be run. The team which met all the leaders of the county, gave directions on how to come up with a directional leadership when the county government will fully come into control.
Speaking during the meeting the team's chair person Mr. John Kirigi challenged the leaders, saying that the proposals they are giving may not come automatically as they appear, since experts must go through it.
Mr. Kirigi said that by the end of March 2011, the commission would have come up with the white paper report and in June they would have draft laws, which will later be taken to the Attorney general, then parliament before the 2012 general elections.
However leaders who had a chance to present their views were able to touch on sensitive areas of interests like, considering the marginalized communities, qualities required of the council leaders, distribution of resources and methods of hooking out non performing leaders in the county.
The meeting was attended by leaders from Provincial Administration, local leaders, business men and leaders from various organizations from all over the county.
