LOCAL SPORTS – 12.03.2011 - By Zacheaus Otaba - The referee abandons the match before its official ending



The gospel out reach assemblies tournament took a brake today after the match between Mahon fc and earth movers backfired yesterday. The difference arose after Stanley Ngige netted a single score for earth movers through a penalty caused by the wrong play by the Mahon player at penalty area.
However, the referee who was officiating the game made a decision that has never been made hence braking the world record of abandoning the match before it came to an end. Ronald Ekeno, who was officiating the game seemed to been provoked by the Mahon fans, who started throwing abuse to him for having made that decision.
It forced the sponsor of the tournament to intervene and take the whistle to officiate the match, who was also ended it before time, after the assistant referee besieged by the Mahon fans who had lost their tempers.
However earth movers qualified for semi-finals which will be played from tomorrow. They are joining Nakwamekwi FC, state side FC and the rocks FC who had qualified before.
The Kenya football federation officials criticized the decision and said that, both the rude team and the referees may face a penalty for being indiscipline.
The finals will be played on Tuesday the 15th of march.
