Local news – 5.3.11 - By Mary Tioko - Auxiliary Bishop Dominic Kimengich has been appointed as the new bishop of lodwar diocese today


The holy father, pope Benedict the xvi has accepted the retirement of Rt. Rev. Patrick Joseph Harrington as bishop of Lodwar diocese. At the same time, the holy father has appointed Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich as the new Bishop of lodwar diocese. Bishop Kimengich has been the Auxiliary Bishop of Lodwar. He was ordained the Auxiliary Bishop of Lodwar on 22nd March 2010.
Bishop Harrington has been Bishop of Lodwar Diocese since the year 2000. He took over from the late Bishop John Mahon, who was the first bishop of Lodwar. We thank God for the gift of bishop Harrington. During his time as the bishop of lodwar. He initiated many development project in the Diocese, especially in the area of Evangelisation. He constructed many churches and Started Radio Akicha. He also came up with the commissioning of Catechists. Now there are over 60 commissioned catechists in the Diocese. There are now 25 parishes in the Diocese of Lodwar.
We thank God for giving us such a very caring bishop, in the person of Bishop Harrington. We wish him a very happy retirement. The new changes were announced by the vatican today on Saturday 5th March at 12.00pm Roman time (2.00pm local time).
The official installation of bishop Dominic Kimengich as the new bishop of Lodwar will be announced later.
