LOCAL NEWS - BY KEN SIMIYU - 17.4.2014 - TWO DIED IN THE RAID IN TURKANA SOUTH

Two people died and three Injured in the Raid at lokitolio village Turkana South Sub-county.Confirming the Incident O.C.P.D Turkana South Mr. Edward Changach said that the village was Ambushed by Bandits Suspected to be from Pokot County at 12 00 midnight killing two people instantly and Injuring three the injured were taken to Lokichar Dispensary and later to Lodwar District Hospital. During the Raid they also made away with 2000 goats and 80 camels. Mr. Changach however said that efforts to recover the Animals did not bear fruits as the combination of ASITU, Administration Police and Regular Police followed but they were unable to recover. Turkana South Sub-county has faced raid challenges as two weeks cannot pass without people being raided. The O.C.P.D assured the residents that the government has plans to control raids on the boundaries.

LOCAL NEWS - 16.4.14 - Ugandan Deligates tours Turkana County on matters of Livestock and Human Health

Turkana County Government is out to corporate with the Ugandan Government to support pastoralists who moved from Turkana to Uganda in search for pasture and water. The County Government has started a two day forum with the delegates from Uganda government planning together ways to help the 30,000 pastoralists living in Uganda in search for pasture and water for their livestock. The team from Uganda was drawn from various departments which include livestock and human Health. The forum was grazed by Turkana County Governor Hon. Josephat Nanok who said that the Ugandan Government has helped the Turkana pastoralists and now Turkana government need to come in and find out plans to help them.The governor however said that they are now bringing on board from different departments to discuss ways of funding the livestock and how to deal with health matters. The governor also said that the government is planning to construct roads from Turkana County to Moroto in Uganda. The County Government will also construct international airport that will enable the neighboring county come to Turkana County without using many hours. Issues of insecurity The Governor said that already Ugandan side’s things are working well but the challenges remain with Pokot County, however he added that on 29^th April the leaders from Turkana County will be meeting to discuss on security issues.

Local news - by Ken Simiyu - COMMUNITY TO BE EMPOWERED ON HEALTH MATTAERS

Save the children International had their second day Training of the health workers all over the county on community empowerment and extension workers. Save the children International is an Organization that aims to promote and protect life of children in Turkana county.

Speaking during the training the Turkana County Public Officer Mr. Kwaba Omwenga said that through Government policy citizen should access medical wherever they are and therefore the health workers should take the services closer to the community. Mr. Kwaba also said that community should be trained to take charge of health on their own, and they should be trained to get knowledge on health matters. The health Officer also added that the health Officers want to reduce Maternal and child health to lower level in the community. The program was funded by Save the children and participants are from the 7 sub-counties who will take the training to community

Local News - by Ken Simiyu -JAPAN AMBASSADOR TO KENYA TOURED TURKANA COUNTY ON 14.4.14.

The International Organization for Migration I O M In collaboration with Japan Government through Japan Ambassador to Kenya H.E Tatsushi Terada today Launched Fisheries Project at sale yard in Lodwar Town Turkana County. During the ceremony the Japans Ambassador said that the government of Japan will improve the construction of an economic Empowerment center for fisheries in Turkana County and funded the fishing project with 1 million US dollars to support fishing program. However he said that Japan government has many developing projects in Kenya which Includes Education, Health in Nutrition development of climate changes and many others. Gracing the Occasion was Turkana county Deputy Governor Hon. Peter Ekai who said that the Launching of fishing Market is the way of Marketing Turkana county and creating Economic development in the County. Deputy Governor also said that the county government will cooperate with Japanese Government to issue the project will bring change in Turkana County. Hon. Ekai added that all fish Projects in Turkana county will be revived and the county government has plans to construct the fish Industry and also find ways of Transporting fish outside the country.

LOCAL NEWS - 6.4.14 - School closed down due to insecurity

Kapelbok Primary School in Turkana South has been closed down for unknown period of time following the insecurity. Head teacher Mr. Samuel Elim said that the death of Kenya Police Reservist has lead to the closure of the school by school management as lives of pupils and staff is in danger. The head teacher however said that unless the security is beefed up learning will remain paralyzed since the school is in danger while going to fetch water, the pupils must be escorted and now without security they cannot cope with the situation. The school which has a population of 730 pupils will not sit for their end of term exams.

Local News - 6.4.14 - Turkana South Leaders call upon the government to beef up security in Turkana South

Political leaders from Turkana South have called upon the government to beef up security in Turkana South. Speaking during the burial of 5 people who lost their lives during the raid Member of County Assembly of Katilia Hon. James  Abei said that Residents of Turkana South are living in fear as every day incidents of cattle rustling occur. However Hon. Abei said that all security leaders in villages and in the National level are to give out the exact report from the village during the incidents. He  also called upon Police Commissioner David Kimayo to return back home guard guns which he took from K.P.R  during his visit in Turkana south claiming that the guns were involved  in the killing of AP Corporal Police of Nakwamoru  AP Camp, of which Hon Abei condemned and said that it led to the killing of 5 people injuring 4.He appreciated the work of O.C.P.D Turkana South  Mr Kipsang Changach for trying to help the residents of Turkana South, but he also urged the government of Turkana County to construct  the bridge connecting Kaptir, Nakwamoru and Kaptir  Kapelibok to enable security officers rescue the residents from those areas.
