LOCAL NEWS ROBERT KARIUKI 21-10-2014 LEGISLATIONS TO BE CREATED TO HONOR PAST AND CURRENT HEROES AND HEROINES

Turkana county government is planning to come up with legislations that will honor both past and current heroes and heroines in the region. This was among the strong point that was pinpointed yesterday in the Governor’s Mashujaa day speech. It also plans to start honoring its heroes and heroines one by one from the next Mashujaa day which will be on 20^th October next year.

The legislation will also outline clearly the procedures on how the heroes and heroines will be identified based on the qualifications. This is to remember those who fought to remain in the land despite mistreatments by colonialists and hardships experienced in the region such as drought and diseases.

In his speech yesterday, Governor Nanok said the procedures outlined will describe who qualifies to be a hero or heroine.

It has taken along time for the heroes and heroines in the region to be recognized but seems from next year Turkana County will start honoring them in a major distinct way.

LOCAL NEWS ROBERT KARIUKI 21-10-2014 TURKANA RESIDENTS EDUCATED ON HISTORICAL LAND INJUSTICES

National lands commission  carried out a citizen participatory forum at the Anna Nanjala education centre which was presided over by county executive in charge of lands, physical planning and urban management, peter Lokol. The main aim of the forum is to formulate a bill to provide for investigation and adjudication of claims arising out of historical land injustices.

Representatives from all over the region including Turkana east, west, central, south, north and Loima attended the forum where they raised issues over land injustices while some claimed that insecurity, neglection and violence are the main factors leading to the historical land injustices. It was also noted that areas of Turkana east, south and Loima have for a long time been neglected exposing them to various challenges.

Speaking during the participatory forum, executive in charge of lands, peter Lokol said his ministry will work with the national lands commission in forming a county lands commission board where every land issue will be addressed.

Residents also proposed for the involvement of Turkana community in the National lands commission.

LOCAL NEWS ROBERT KARIUKI 21-10-2014 GOVERNOR PROMISES TO WORK WITH ALL PARTIES FOR DEVELOPMENT PURPOSE

Josphat Koli Nanok-Governor Turkana County

 Turkana county governor, Josphat Nanok  during the Mashujaa day promised to work with women, youths, disabled community and aged men all because of development and growth of this county. The governor said this yesterday at the Moi gardens where the celebration took place. He promised to involve each party in his plan for development and urged them to work together with his government.

Giving his Mashujaa day speech to the large desperate crowd who were eager to hear what their boss had, the governor said there have been delays experienced in getting money to fund various groups because of certain laws that had to be followed but that has been solved and everything will now progress as planned.

The governor also called for unity among leaders and he added that soon he will be introducing a council of elders in every ward which will include both men and women who will help in decision making and implementing certain issues.

LOCAL NEWS ROBERT KARIUKI 23-10-2014 TRANSPORT PARALYZED AT KAPEDO-LOKORI ROAD DUE TO RISE IN INSECURITY

After a van transporting K.C.S.E exams to Kapedo secondary school was burnt down and a vehicle belonging to a police inspector sprayed with bullets with bandits who are believed to be from the neighboring Pokot County the road linking Kapedo and Lokori is now impassable. The bandits are now camping at the road side waiting to attack any vehicle that passes along the road.

Right now the residents of the area are living with fear because the bandits have surrounded the area disabling movement of people and goods in and out. Food shortage is also threatening the hit the region if no action is taken in the shortest time possible because food supply has been cut off.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Akicha, Kapedo area M.C.A, Didmus Chagem, said communication has also been affected but he still hopes exams will be airlifted to enable candidates to carry on well.

Speaking also to Radio Akicha, Kapedo secondary school principal, Daniel Namunwa, said there is a police unit between Kapedo and Lokori but it cannot help because the bandits attack in large numbers.

The residents are now hoping the national government will come and rescue them from the situation as soon as possible claiming that the government is being ignorant.

LOCAL NEWS ROBERT KARIUKI 24-10-2014 DIPEK CONDUCTS TRAINING TO EMPOWER RESIDENTS FINANCIALLY

Direct intervention programme for empowering Kenyans (DIPEK)  started a two-days training workshop at the Lodwar lodge conference hall in Lodwar town as they trained residents on how they can empower themselves financially through an airtime distribution system. DIPEK which is powered by pillar technologies offers airtime for all networks as its main product.

Residents from the wide Lodwar town turned up to invite this new innovation which proves to be a great opportunity to empower them and their loved ones. The programme targets to reach everybody especially those in urban centers of the region like Lodwar town, Kakuma, Kainuk and Lokichar. Speaking during the training at Lodwar lodge today, DIPEK organizer in Turkana county, Mr. Jeremiah Ng’asitae said this is the first time the programme has being brought in the region.

The training will continue tomorrow whereby residents interested by the services will be registered ready to tap wealth which is created in the telecommunications sector daily.
