National
lands commission carried out a citizen participatory forum at the Anna Nanjala
education centre which was presided over by county executive in charge of
lands, physical planning and urban management, peter Lokol. The main aim of the
forum is to formulate a bill to provide for investigation and adjudication of
claims arising out of historical land injustices.
Representatives
from all over the region including Turkana east, west, central, south, north
and Loima attended the forum where they raised issues over land injustices
while some claimed that insecurity, neglection and violence are the main
factors leading to the historical land injustices. It was also noted that areas
of Turkana east, south and Loima have for a long time been neglected exposing
them to various challenges.
Speaking
during the participatory forum, executive in charge of lands, peter Lokol said his
ministry will work with the national lands commission in forming a county lands
commission board where every land issue will be addressed.
Residents
also proposed for the involvement of Turkana community in the National lands
commission.
