Turkana
county leaders led by Governor Josphat Nanok and his counterpart James Lomenen,
M.P Turkana south held a forum with Tullow oil company representative and
community representatives at Lokichar town in Turkana south as they discussed
issues concerning the oil exploration process especially those affecting the
community.
The forum
aimed at educating the community on their involvement in the process and how
the resources will be shared out between the national government, the county
government and the local community. One of the key points during the forum was
the division of profits and updating the mass where the company has reached so
far in the oil exploration process.
Speaking
during the forum at Ngamia One, Turkana South M.P said that the community knows
that oil exists though some have not yet tasted its benefits.
Also
speaking during the forum, Turkana county governor, Hon. Josphat Nanok said oil
has being discovered but they will have to find out the exact quantity before
they start transporting it through pipelines.
Even though
Tullow Oil Company is doing its part in educating the community more has to be
done still in making them understand how the process is going to benefit them.
