Lodwar water
and Sanitation Company has blamed delayed payment of water bills by customers
that has led to the current water shortage which is now becoming a crisis in
Turkana region. Learning institutions, various organizations, hospitals are now
finding it hard to continue with their activities with the company however
maintaining that many of its customers have not yet settled their bills.
Lowasco has
a huge debt belonging to Kenya power and lighting company forcing the power
company to cut off supply of electricity. The water shortage has come days
after the just completed water summit that was held on 10th of this
month at Eliye springs where water issues affecting the region were discussed.
In an exclusive interview with Radio Akicha, Mr. Benjamin Ewoi who is the procurement
officer said they have already hold talks with the power company and agreed
that they will supply power to 3 boreholes first.
He also
added that even after all customers have paid their bills they still have a
deficit.
The water
company is now hoping they will solve the issue with KPLC in time so that
Turkana county residents can get supply of water back again.
