Local News – 22.11.2010 -By Ekeno Sammy - Shock as residents of kanaan disccover dead body

A body of a 19 year old man was today found 500 kilometres away from kanamkemer village, with deep cuts .The body was discovered by children who had been sent to fetch firewood,when the children saw the body they rushed to their parents and told them who later alerted the community and called the police.It is believed that Victor Otieno was attacked by a customer he was ferrying.A close friend to Otieno told the police that the last time he saw his friend was on Saturday when he borrowed him his motorbike keys to drop a customer.Its alleged that the customer turned on him and killed him before making away with the motorbike.Amongst the things found at the scene were white sport shoes,,a spade and scratch card which were taken by the police.
Until his brutal murder,Victor Otieno was living with his grandmother at Nakwamekwi village after his parents passed away. The police took the body to the mortuary and investigations are underway as to why he was killed. For now the case is being treated as robbery.

Local news – 21.11.10 - By Mary Tioko - The feast of christ the king celebrated by Catholic faithfuls

The Christian faithfuls of St. Augustine were today celebrated the feast of christ the king. The colourful celebration was led by the sacred heart group and all the christians participated actively. The assistant priest of St. Augustine Cathedral parish Fr. Simon Mutai informed the faithfuls during his homily that Christ was humble and needed us as his followers to be humble.
Fr. Mutai said that the kingdom of God is not compared with the earthly leadership where people aspire to be political leaders, some want authority, power and a mighty person who can command authority and the one who will conquer the enemies when war ensues but his kingdom is everlasting one and cannot end like earthly kingdom. The priest said that Christians have a king who is Jesus Christ, who is a mighty king who prayers for us to overcome temptations of the world. Fr. Mutai also said that when one is baptized he /she joins the kingdom of God where love, unity , forgiveness and peace reigns which is the opposite of the earthly kingdom which is a corrupt kingdom.
Fr. Mutai urged the faithfuls to make sacrifice in order to inherit the kingdom since Christ also suffered .The priest also called upon the Christians to guard their faith against the devil in order to evangelize the word of God ,a above all the priest urged the Christians to humble themselves before Christ in order to be uplifted just as Christ was uplifted in his humility. Fr. Mutai said that in the kingdom of God there is no pride . Christ fought for the kingdom and overcame death and Christians also shall overcome death. He called upon the Christians to be coming to church to adore Christ in the tabernacle so as to glorify him who is our king.

Local News – 20.11.10 - By Mary Tioko - Jamin Ekai wins Biwot Race

Jamin Ekai who comes from Kainuk in Turkana South District yesterday won the Biwot Race at Chepkorio in Keiyo District in 8km Min 20: 15: 56. The race was participated by 200 athlets from Eldoret, keiyo, and Nakuru. Ekai who managed to join the team on his own also succeeded to come 1st in the race and did Turkanas proud.

Local news – 19.11.10 - By Mary Tioko -Primary school report card guidelines for parents filled

The parents from Lodwar mixed primary school assembled in the school hall to fill the report card guidelines as developed by the the ministry of Education with national tax payers association today. The exercise that is said to be taking place in all primary schools in Turkana County seems to go on nicely as parents are responding well as said By Mr. Akoyo who is the deputy head teacher teacher of Lodwar mixed Primary.
The meeting that was chaired by the chairman Mr. William Emathe was assisted by the trained personel on the document Mrs. Angelina Lore brought together 30 parents on board.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Emathe said the report card was introduced to primary schools to be used as a tool to share information between parents , teachers and school management committees. Mr. Emathe also said that the document will encouraged parents to take active role in improving the quality of education in their local primary schools. Mrs. Lore added that the document enables parents to demand accountability from head teachers, teachers, school management committees, District Education Officers,DE Os staff, and Debs.
She said that Parents are reminded that children are the main stakeholders in the right to quality education and thus parents have a right to improve the quality of education for girls and boys in public schools. Mrs. Lore encouraged all the parents to bring their children to school and monitor their progress while in schools.

Boda boda services fare rise due to escalating fuel prices in the country.
Mr john Alemu the boda boda spokesman alerted the passengers in the distinct to be aware as the rampant piracy along the Indian ocean affects the fuel prices all over the world.
He added, the transport costs of the fuel and security measures taken to guard the oil is the main cause of the price fluctuation.
Addressing the the press people during the briefing in his office the Boda boda youth group vice chairman Mr Ereng Edaan Erustus cited out that Budget driving school will conduct a driving test for at least 30 members with facilitation of the office .
Mr Ereng said the measure will be taken to improve the bodaboda service and to give members the right skills and training according to the law. He further said all drivers are expected to be more careful during this festive season when schools are closed so that not to give motorbikes to unqualified person he said sturn measures will be taken against anybody found disobeying the law.

LOCAL NEWS – 17.11.2010 - By Mary Tioko - St. Elizabeth Small christian communities celebrate their saint day in style

The christian community of st. Augustine cathedral has today received 12 infants who were baptised in the church to mark st. Elizabeth day. The mass that brought together 2 members from each small christian communities from st. Augustines Jumuiyas was animated by the members of St. Elizabeth and later the guest were served with lunch as a sign of unity. Fr. Simon Mutai said in his homily that children have to be brought to church and brought up in the catholic faith. The parents have to undergo catechism and later teach their children. Fr. Mutai said that in the readings of the day it says love your neighbours as yourselves and later attain eternal life . The children were given the candle as a sign of light forever in their lives and the sign of the cross was marked on their ears and mouth inorder to hear and speak the word of God.
Saying a bout st. Elizabeth history , the chairperson of St.Elizabeth Mrs. Grace Emoru said that Elizabeth was born in the year 1207 to Andrew 11 of Hungary and his wife,Gertrude of Andechs-Meran.To obtain a favorable political alliance,Elizabeth was promised in marriage to Louis (Ludwig),the eldest of Landgrave Herman of Thuringia and Hesse(now Germany). At the age of four she as taken to taken to Thuringian Castle of the Wartburg, near Eisenach, there to be groomed as the wife of the future landgrave.
