in collaboration with children’s Office and Adult Education department concerted their efforts to take street children back to school. Speaking to our news reporter, the
nominated MCA Hon Ruth Kuya said that they started with 28 street children and
the number arose to 68, out of 68 three of them were girls and yesterday were taken to
Turkana girls primary school where boys were taken to Lorugum Boys and
Napeililim primary school. The chief Officer in Education Office Amina Ewoi
urged the well-wishers to support in building the Rescue Center for street
children. She added that in Education Sector they did not have that budget for
the street children and hopping that next financial year they will
include in the budget. The Adult Education officer Mr. Dominick Ngoko said
that they mobilized the street children last year in August where they were meeting every evening at Chamunga for
counseling and spiritual nourishment by Pr. Bonface Lokuruka.

Lodwar OCS orders Probox vehicles to stop operating long distances
Kalokol and Kakuma passengers today were stranded in Lodwar
Town after police stopped the pro box vehicles carrying passengers since they
are not licensed as PSV vehicles. Addressing the pro box operators
OCS of Lodwar Police Station Mr Evans Omuga said that from that day no
pro-box vehicle will be allowed to
carry passengers for long distance that is
Kakuma - Kalokol route but will only be
allowed to operate within lodwar Township as Taxis. This follows last week’s
meeting which was held at the County Police Commander’s office where the probox
operators led a demonstration demanding them be allowed to carry on
with their work without being harassed by police officers. Mr. Omuga added that
the Kalokol - Kakuma stage that is directly opposite to Lodwar Hospital gate
is not recognized and all vehicles going to Kakuma route will only be
allowed to take passengers next to Kobil petrol station. Police in their riot gear
were stationed at the stage ready to deal with any Acts of lawlessness but no
incident happened during the meeting as the probox vehicle operators agreed to follow the
law.

ti Christians have been reminded
that they are people of light and not darkness. Speaking at Thanksgiving mass
of Deacon Moses Lomodo today morning at St. Augustine's Cathedral parish, His
Lordship Dominic Kimengich informed the faithful’s present to walk in the light
of Christ that will eventually lead them to heaven. His lordship also thanked
God for the gift of Deacon Moses who accepted to be a missionary in the
neighboring country of South Sudan in the Diocese of Torit.
His Lordship called upon all Christians to
pray for the Deacon as he accepted to do the will of God in a Torit and added
that he did not fear for he is the son of Light and that he prays for the same
light of Christ to guide them in their actions so as not to fall into
temptations. His lordship reminded them to re - examine themselves
before deciding to do any action. He also reminded them of the divisions of the
old church that had a lot of divisions and added that even among them there are
a lot of divisions that need to be avoided in order to prosper. He encouraged
them to leave rumors and do what is right. He urged them to be united in order
to develop and always be in love. He said that Christians here are divided
according to their old leadership. Referring to the county leadership he said
that leaders need to unite and serve people well since leadership comes from
God. He urged all Christians to be peace keepers and pray for peace in their
families, County and the Nation at large.
Turkana Tourist and cultural Association started aground setting to revive Tourism in Turkana County on 22.01.2014
45 stakeholders who are
attached in Tourism sector held a function to revive tourism in Turkana County to set a bench mark on tourism. Speaking during the forum the County Chief Officer Mr. Mathew
Logurale said that since 1980s Turkana County has been receiving tourists but on low scale. Mr. Mathew Logurale however added that
although there are many challenges like food, insecurity, and facilities there is
need for the stakeholders to come up with a way to improve Tourism Sector in
the County. He also said that Turkana County has not benefited from Tourists due to lack of modernized facilities like Five star, Three star, Four star hotels
with swimming pools, playing grounds which Tourists can enjoy. Tourism Sector markets Turkana County both Nationally and Locally to generate income for self reliance. Line ministries present were, Ministry of Education, Energy, Kenya Wildlife, Hotels
representatives, Land users among others.
