Kalokol and Kakuma passengers today were stranded in Lodwar
Town after police stopped the pro box vehicles carrying passengers since they
are not licensed as PSV vehicles. Addressing the pro box operators
OCS of Lodwar Police Station Mr Evans Omuga said that from that day no
pro-box vehicle will be allowed to
carry passengers for long distance that is
Kakuma - Kalokol route but will only be
allowed to operate within lodwar Township as Taxis. This follows last week’s
meeting which was held at the County Police Commander’s office where the probox
operators led a demonstration demanding them be allowed to carry on
with their work without being harassed by police officers. Mr. Omuga added that
the Kalokol - Kakuma stage that is directly opposite to Lodwar Hospital gate
is not recognized and all vehicles going to Kakuma route will only be
allowed to take passengers next to Kobil petrol station. Police in their riot gear
were stationed at the stage ready to deal with any Acts of lawlessness but no
incident happened during the meeting as the probox vehicle operators agreed to follow the
law.
