The 2003 introduction of CDF in Kenya with the aim of
changing development in the community was a good idea that the government came
up but with devolution government has made some changes in the CDF. This has
come out following the CDF secretariat board that is in Turkana County to meet
all board members of the six constituencies to educate them on how to work for
the public. During the meeting, Turkana County Governor Josephat Nanok said
that for the last five years CDF was handled by the MPs and the appointed the
members of the board but now the board member is selected by the public. Governor
Nanok however told the Turkana board members to avoid corruption and work for
the people. He said that working for the public is a sensitive issue that one should
ask for consultation before doing anything.
Hon Nanok said he will work together with the board members
as he is the patron of the CDF committee. However he gave them an example of
Turkana South CDF for the past five years that he worked hand in hand with the
committee and as a result he managed to buy five school busses and other
development in the community through CDF funds.
