CDF was introduced to reduce
poverty in the community and promote equity in the sharing of resources in the
country this came out when the national CDF secretariat finished a two days
sensitization workshop at KMTC in Lodwar. Speaking today during the closure of
the forum, Turkana West MP Daniel Nanok said his constituency has received the
largest amount of CDF allocation because it is the biggest in terms of
population and is beginning its development from scratch. Hon Nanok said the
county government has set aside sh 5 million bursary for every ward and added
that Turkana West which has seven wards will get 35 million for bursary which
the CDF will top up with sh.10 million to make a total of 45 million for
sponsoring students. The MP said illiteracy is a challenge in Turkana West and
the committee will give priority to education because many youth are primary
school drop outs. He urged the youths to form groups and register them so that
they can benefit from funds like Uwezo and many others that have been introduced.
On employment Nanok said that youths are yearning to get big jobs from NGOs
when advertised yet few of them have the qualifications. He said he will
mobilize the youth form the ward level to the constituency in meetings for them
to identify their own priorities while the MP as patron will assist empower
them in capacity building and facilitation.
