Local news - by Ken Simiyu - 28.11.2013 - Security again under test as transport is halted in West Pokot.

Transport is under halt after the armed assailant’s camp on the Kitale-Lodwar highway attacking and barring buses. The assailants say they are on that bid after the killing of a pokot bodaboda by the unknown people as well as taking away his motorbike. Confirming the incident the OCPD of Pokot central Kaluki has said the gunmen attacked buses at one today and forcefully took some luggage leaving some passengers with minor injuries. OCPD has added that one the buses went back to Kapenguria while others are parked at Marich police station while awaiting the situation to calm. He has however assured that police officers are tonight going to escort the buses to their respective destinations. This comes a few days after the restoration of peace at Lorogon where more than 900 residents had been attacked.

Local news - by Ken Simiyu - 14.12.2013 – LOWASCO CONSTRUCTS MORE WATER KIOSKS IN THE VILLAGES.

The Turkana community has been facing water challenges for the past years where many people used the river water for drinking. Today LOWASCO opened water kiosk at Lokipetot village in Nakwamekwi location the water kiosk will serve the residents of Red burner A and Lokipetot. Speaking during the function Managing Director of LOWASCO Mr. John Esekon said that the water kiosk will improve the lives of the community as well as reducing water borne diseases that has been posing danger to the community. Mr. Esekon appreciated those water users who pay 200 and above for being cooperative of paying their bills in time. On the other hand Mr. Esekon also commented on those who pay more than 2000 shillings that they delay the process of LOWASCO when they fail to pay the bills on time. The director added that there is some department in the National Government and also County government that has a debt of more than 7 million shillings and have not paid up to now, such delay they will no development in the county in-seated want to drag the company down. Lowasco was ranked number 26 in the country number 4 in rift valley and number 1in the whole of North rift, he urged the county government to support them and also stake holders so as to improve the work of supplying water in the community.

Local sports news - by Ken Simiyu - 12.12.2013 - PIRATES 09 DEFEATED NAWOITORONG RANGERS IN JAMUHURI CUP.

The FKF Jamuhuri cup which started yesterday ended today when Kenya celebrated 50 years after Independence in the semifinals Pirates 09 defeated Earth movers 5-4 in the penalty shootout after the draw of 1-1 in the normal time at Lodwar primary. At prison ground Nawoitorong defeated super united 10goals to 9 in the penalty shootout after they also held in the goalless draw. The finals that were played at prison ground attracted more than 500 fans the game kicked off at 4.00pm the two teams which played the Nurzarine Tournament finals made again in the Jamuhuri cup. Nawoitorong opened there goal in the second half and pirates equalized after 5 minutes after awarded a penalty the game ended 1-1 and faced to to go to penalty shootout and Pirates won 5-4

The two day Tournament kicked off today at prison ground and Lodwar mix primary school in the morning Earth movers was awarded three points after State side failed to appear in the ground at prison ground. At Lodwar primary also Islamic did not show off therefore Nawoitorong Rangers was given three points. Evening at 4.pm Pirates 09 played against Mahon fc and worn 1 goal to nil the lonely goals was scored by Eliakim Eleo in the second half. Elsewhere at Lodwar primary Super United thrashed Mapros fc 5 goals to nil, and tomorrow semifinals in the morning Earth movers will play against Pirates 09 at Lodwar primary school then Super United will play Nawoitorong Rangers at prison ground all games will kick off at 9.00am final will be at evening.

Local news - by Ken Simiyu - 6.12.2013 - Turkana county Assembly speaker attends the media council

The National media completed two day training on media guideline at Lodwar Lodge guest house.

The vice chairman of media council Mr. Victor Bwire said that the journalist should not base on negative sides but also positive part of the story to avoid conflict in the community.

He promised to come back in January next year to Educate journalist on county assembly reporting and also writing stories about county assemble.

The Turkana county speaker Hon Geoffrey Kaituko attended the last session of the last day and he said that media and public are allowed by the constitution to take part in county assembly session. Commenting on Kenya Information and communication bill KICA which was passed with the National Assembly, he said that the way the bill was done cannot pass the test of constitution.

However added that any Kenyan can media to take the opportunity to take the bill to the high court and stop it be Implemented, he was also shocked that not many people understands the constitution and urged the media to educate them. The speaker promised to create space for media to carry on with their work ones the construction will be finished.

Local News - by Ken Simiyu - 3.12.2013 - TURKANA COMMUNITY CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DISABILITY DAY

 Turkana community celebrated International day of people living with disability at Mikeka ground in Lodwar Town. During the celebration the minister of health Hon Jane Ajele informed the Turkana community that 15% of the world population is people living with disability which shows that disabled are the largest Minority people in the world.

The minister added that the barrier that hindered people with disabilities to engage in development are physical, environmental information, communication and technology which results from legislation policy and society attitude that discriminate people with disability.

Hon Jane Ajele however said that the county government will support them through social service and   ministry of Education to support them; she said that the county government is going to work with  Partners like Merlin, Dioceses of Lodwar, Red Cross and other  partners. The guest of honor added that they will ensure all structures are friendly to people with disability, offices, schools and many facilities that disables will need.
