People with disabilities are facing challengers following the negligence and discrimination by their families. This follows the case that has been reported in the Diocese of Lodwar in the office that deals with people living with disability in Turkana community.The 74 years old man at St Mary’s Kawalase was reported to have been abandoned. The old man Ekuom Lochakai Manik who believed to have 11 children is facing challenges of getting food, clothing and also shelter.Speaking during the emergency food and cloths aid the chairman of Disabled people in Turkana central Mr Mark Nakain said that at St Mary’s village there are more than 5 people namely Joseph Ekitela 28 years old. Esekon Arot 40 years old Maraka Akoel Lokorinyang 45 years among others are the victims of Discrimination. Mr. Mark however urged them to form the small groups to enable them to be recognized by the county, he added that some of them has skills that can help them to earn the living. He also urge the county government to support them the Emergency food and cloths was raised by the Dioceses of Lodwar the county government should raise some funds for Christmas.

Local news - by ken simiyu - 23.12.2013 - Food distribution to the persons with disabilities

Kenya Union for blind gave out 76 bags of Maize to three most Affected disabled groups from Nakwamekwi and Kanamkemer. Speaking during the exercise the minister for public service, decentralized Administration and Disaster Management Hon Charles Lokioto said that he will rest only if his people have at least put something in their mouth. Since the central government brought 5000 bags of maize in Turkana county early last week Hon Lokioto has distributed more than 400 bags of maize to help those people affected by hunger. Hon Lokioto however said that following the drought that has hit most parts of the county and left many people emaciated. The minister added that if the normal person can lack food what of the disable, after meeting two chair persons of Nakwamekwi and Kanamkemer assessed their vulnerability they find out that the three groups were more vulnerable and they decided to give them food. He urged the welshers to celebrate with those people that has nothing to eat, he is still on the run to make sure the interior parts of the county that are also affected shall be reached.

local news - by Ken Simiyu - 16.12.2013 - The CDF secretariat is in Turkana county for three days forum

The 2003 introduction of CDF in Kenya with the aim of changing development in the community was a good idea that the government came up but with devolution government has made some changes in the CDF. This has come out following the CDF secretariat board that is in Turkana County to meet all board members of the six constituencies to educate them on how to work for the public. During the meeting, Turkana County Governor Josephat Nanok said that for the last five years CDF was handled by the MPs and the appointed the members of the board but now the board member is selected by the public. Governor Nanok however told the Turkana board members to avoid corruption and work for the people. He said that working for the public is a sensitive issue that one should ask for consultation before doing anything.

Hon Nanok said he will work together with the board members as he is the patron of the CDF committee. However he gave them an example of Turkana South CDF for the past five years that he worked hand in hand with the committee and as a result he managed to buy five school busses and other development in the community through CDF funds.

Local News - 16.12.2013 - By Ken Simiyu -Three people killed in raid at Lorengippi.

Three people died and three others were injured in a raid at Lorengippi village in Loima sub-county. According to an eye witness Emugi Longiron from Lorengippi said that the incident occurred at 5.00am whereby an unknown number of bandits believed to have come from neighboring Pokot North sub-County ambushed Lorengippi village killing the three a woman and two men among them a Kpr. They walked away with an unknown number of livestock and in the process two raiders were also killed. The injured three are in Lodwar District hospital, a woman and one man who were shot in the legs and another man was shot in the head they are all receiving treatment. GSU, Regular police and AP are pursuing the raiders at the moment.

Local News - By Ken Simiyu - 17.12.2013 - Youths in Turkana West told to form groups to benefit from Uwezo fund

CDF was introduced to reduce poverty in the community and promote equity in the sharing of resources in the country this came out when the national CDF secretariat finished a two days sensitization workshop at KMTC in Lodwar. Speaking today during the closure of the forum, Turkana West MP Daniel Nanok said his constituency has received the largest amount of CDF allocation because it is the biggest in terms of population and is beginning its development from scratch. Hon Nanok said the county government has set aside sh 5 million bursary for every ward and added that Turkana West which has seven wards will get 35 million for bursary which the CDF will top up with sh.10 million to make a total of 45 million for sponsoring students. The MP said illiteracy is a challenge in Turkana West and the committee will give priority to education because many youth are primary school drop outs. He urged the youths to form groups and register them so that they can benefit from funds like Uwezo and many others that have been introduced. On employment Nanok said that youths are yearning to get big jobs from NGOs when advertised yet few of them have the qualifications. He said he will mobilize the youth form the ward level to the constituency in meetings for them to identify their own priorities while the MP as patron will assist empower them in capacity building and facilitation.

Local news - by Ken Simiyu - 18-12-2013 - County government has started to supply Relief food.

Kamwini and Kaemongor villages received relief food from Turkana county Government. Following the drought and hunger that strikes some part of the county and caused the relief of three people from 15^th of November. The minister for public service, decentralized Administration and Disaster Management Hon. Charles Loikioto said that the community of Komwani and Kaemongor has received maize, beans and cooking oil. However Hon. Lokioto said that the community of Komwini villages has received 70 bags of maize, 8 bag of beans and 64 liters of cooking oil.

The other village of the same place also received 80 bags of maize, 8 bags of beans and 64 liters of cooking oil. Hon. Lokioto added that those villages are also affected by lack of water and the villagers take more than two days to get water and forced them to graze in the neighboring country Uganda which is 200 Kilometers from that place. He said this today at those two villages which are 5 kilometers from gold and he distributed food for more than 7500 people. The minister urged the well-wishers to fund for the community who are suffering from hunger, NGO's like World Food Programme to intervene even although it is their Programme but they should handle it as emergency.
