LOCAL NEWS KEN SIMIYU AND ROBERT KARIUKI 26-10-2014 LEADERS STOP TULLOW ACTIVITIES IN A BID TO CATCH GOVERNMENT’S ATTENTION




Turkana county leaders led by Turkana east Member of Parliament, Hon. Nicholas Nikor and other local leaders have demonstrated and called for the stop of Tullow oil company activities due to the rise in insecurity. The leaders demonstrated today in a bid to catch the national government attention to bring in security reinforcements in the region claiming that for so long people have been losing their lives yet the national leaders remain quiet on the issue.
This comes after insecurity situation in Kapedo turning from worse to critical whereby yesterday two vehicles belonging G.S.U officers were attacked. 2 people including a G.S.U inspector and a woman heading to Kapedo were seriously injured and 4 other people are still missing after yesterday’s attack. This has now forced Turkana leaders to take action by stopping activities at the Tullow Company in Lokichar as they can no longer watch their people decrease in number every day.
Speaking to Radio akicha today, Kapedo area M.C.A, Didmus Chagem said they have decided to stop oil activities because they believe it is one of the reasons causing the attacks carried out by bandits suspected to be from Pokot County.
Efforts by the Kenya wildlife service and the Kenya police choppers in retrieving the 4 missing people were fruitless and until now no one has seen or even heard from them. The inspector general of police, David Kimaiyo is expected to visit the region soon to address security issues.

LOCAL NEWS ROBERT KARIUKI AND KEN SIMIYU 27-10-2014 TENSION HIGH IN SCHOOLS AT KAPEDO FOLLOWING FREQUENT ATTACKS



In duration of one week, Kapedo town in Turkana east has been the talk of Turkana county following recent frequent attacks that has hit the region. The attacks which are believed to being carried out by bandits suspected to be from West Pokot County has affected the education sector causing tension among pupils, students, teachers and parents.
Speaking to Radio Akicha while at Lokwamosing primary school in Kapedo, Turkana county KNUT secretary, Tony Nasia Ewoton said they have agreed with teachers at the region to be on the look and be careful while in the school premises.
It is now becoming clear that if the national government which has the obligation of providing security to all Kenyans does not act the education sector is going to face a huge problem.

LOCAL NEWS CECILIA EKIRU AND ROBERT KARIUKI 27-10-2014 STREET CHILDREN CANDIDATES PREPARE FOR FINAL EXAMS DESPITE MANY CHALLENGES



6 street boys schooling at the Riverside Adventist schools in Lodwar town are now preparing for their K.C.P.E exams which will be kicking off on 7th of November despite many challenges that they are facing since they were admitted in the school late last year.
This is the first set of street children who are going to sit for K.C.P.E after they were rescued from the streets by the adult education officer who saw their interest in education. Speaking to Radio Akicha today, Adult education officer in charge of Turkana central, Mr. Dominic Ngoko said he requested Riverside Adventist schools management to accept the boys which they did by interviewing them.
Elsewhere, Riverside school head teacher, Mr. Bernard Odhiambo said it is the responsibility of the community at large to ensure that the 6 boys are continuing with their secondary education after they complete their primary education this year.
David Ekai, who is a street boy and a candidate, has thanked the efforts of those who rescued him and his colleagues from the chains of street life however he says there are still challenges facing them as they approach the exam period.
The candidates are now hoping to perform well after showing remarkable results in past exams.

LOCAL NEWS ROBERT KARIUKI 28-10-2014 NATIONAL RESERVIST POLICE KILLED AND BODY DUMPED IN A FARM ORCHARD AT NAKWAMORU



A 25 year old national reservist officer was shot and killed and his body found dumped at a farm orchard today morning at Nakwamoru sub-location in Kaputir location. The officer was heading to the farm after completing his duty but little did he know that bandits suspected to be from the neighboring Pokot County were trailing him behind. The officer was reported to be missing at 8 pm last night and later gunshots were heard coming from the farm.
Confirming the incident today, Kaputir location chief, Mr. Charles Lokuya said the young officer was shot twice at the back and on the head and his gun taken away by the bandits.
The officer’s body was found today at 6 in the morning and was taken to his house where the burial has already been conducted. As at now the situation is calm and security has been beefed up in areas of Lorogon and Nakwamoru.

LOCAL NEWS ROBERT KARIUKI 29-10-2014 HEALTH MINISTRY UNVEILS 4 LORRIES THAT WILL SUPPLY MEDICINE TO VARIOUS DISPENSARIES


Turkana county health ministry launched 4 trucks which will be used to supply medicine to various dispensaries all over the county. Each lorry was assigned to supply medicine to different dispensaries in every ward. The flagging off was presided over by county executive in charge of health and sanitation, Jane Ajele accompanied by other health officials.

The Lorries will supply medicine to 110 dispensaries including missionary facilities and partnering health centers. Speaking when flagging off the trucks, health executive, Jane Ajele said the county government has spent Sh. 40 million in purchasing the medicines that will benefit everyone.

She also added that HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis victims and children below the age of 5 years will get the medicines free in every dispensary.

The first lady, Margaret Kenyatta was expected to visit the county to launches her on going beyond zero campaign which targets to promote health access to mothers and children.
