The British High Commissioner,
Dr Christian Turner and his delegation met Turkana County Leaders at the Governor’s
office at 12 noon. The meeting was aimed at discussing issues that were of
benefit to both the British Government and Turkana County Government. The British
Government greatly contributes to the developments and projects in various
parts of the county. Speaking during a press briefing, Turkana County Governor,
Honorable Josephat Nanok, stated that the County Government has agreed to work
closely with the British government and other organizations so that the lives
of the local people can be improved. Speaking during the same briefing session,
the British high commissioner, Dr Turner said that he was glad to be back to Turkana
County and expressed his visit as a trip back home. He added that the meeting
was a success and that for the last 5 years the British government funding to Turkana
County has totaled up to 42 million pounds which is equivalent to 6 billion Kenyan
shillings. Earlier in the morning, Dr Christian Turner opened a workshop for
the members of the county assembly who were to be trained in areas of
participation and accountability.
